We, the undersigned citizens of the United States, urgently call upon Congress to summon Dr. Anthony Fauci, former Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), to testify in a public, televised hearing to address serious allegations regarding his actions and decisions during his tenure. Despite any executive pardons, Dr. Fauci remains accountable to Congress and the American people, and he is obligated to provide transparent answers without invoking the Fifth Amendment. We demand that Congress investigate the following concerns:
HIV/AIDS Crisis Response: Dr. Fauci’s leadership during the HIV/AIDS epidemic has been criticized for delays in research, approval, and distribution of effective treatments, as well as for allegedly prioritizing pharmaceutical interests over patient welfare. His role in shaping public health policy during this period, including the promotion of certain drugs and the marginalization of alternative therapies, requires thorough scrutiny to assess whether his actions contributed to unnecessary suffering and loss of life.
Gain-of-Function Research: Evidence, including NIH documents and testimony from former Acting NIH Director Dr. Lawrence Tabak, suggests that the NIH, under Dr. Fauci’s oversight, funded gain-of-function research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology through EcoHealth Alliance, despite Dr. Fauci’s repeated denials in congressional hearings. This research, which enhances the transmissibility or pathogenicity of viruses, has been linked to speculation about the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic. Congress must investigate whether Dr. Fauci misled lawmakers and the public about the nature and risks of this funding, potentially endangering global health.
Allegations of False Testimony: Dr. Fauci’s statements to Congress, particularly his 2021 testimony to Senator Rand Paul that the NIH did not fund gain-of-function research in Wuhan, have been contradicted by NIH admissions and grant documents. Such discrepancies raise concerns about perjury and erosion of public trust. Congress must hold Dr. Fauci accountable for any misleading or untruthful statements made under oath, as lying to Congress is a serious offense that undermines democratic oversight.
COVID-19 Pandemic Policies: Dr. Fauci’s role as a leading figure in the federal response to COVID-19 included promoting policies such as mask mandates, social distancing, and lockdowns, which he later admitted lacked robust scientific backing, including the arbitrary “six feet apart” guideline. His initial dismissal of the lab-leak hypothesis, despite private acknowledgment of its plausibility, and his influence on scientific narratives, demand examination to determine whether he manipulated public discourse or suppressed legitimate scientific inquiry.
Use of Private Communications: Revelations from FOIA requests, including emails obtained by the White Coat Waste Project, indicate that Dr. Fauci used personal email accounts to conduct official business, potentially violating federal transparency laws. Additionally, his senior advisor, Dr. David Morens, admitted to using private channels to evade FOIA requests, raising questions about Dr. Fauci’s oversight and involvement in efforts to obscure public records.
The American people deserve answers. Dr. Fauci’s actions have had profound consequences, from the loss of millions of lives during the AIDS and COVID-19 crises to the economic and social devastation caused by pandemic policies. Prominent voices, including Elon Musk, have echoed the public’s demand for accountability, emphasizing that so-called “gain-of-function” research may have contributed to catastrophic outcomes. We respectfully request that Congress convene a bipartisan, transparent hearing to compel Dr. Fauci to address these allegations, provide clarity on his decisions, and restore public trust in our health institutions. This is not about retribution but about ensuring truth, accountability, and lessons learned to prevent future failures.
