We, the undersigned, call on Congress to raise or suspend the federal debt ceiling without delay to protect the financial well-being of millions of Americans and the global economy.
The U.S. Treasury Department is projected to hit the borrowing limit as early as July or August 2025. If lawmakers fail to act in time, the country could default on its obligations—jeopardizing federal payments, increasing interest rates, and triggering an economic downturn that would hurt every American household.
We urge Congress to:
Raise or Suspend the Debt Ceiling Immediately
Ensure the U.S. government can meet its financial obligations without delay.
Avoid risking damage to credit ratings, retirement accounts, jobs, and essential services.
Protect Vital Programs Like Social Security and Medicare
Reject proposals that use the debt ceiling as leverage to cut safety-net programs relied upon by millions.
Prioritize the well-being of seniors, veterans, and low-income Americans.
Establish a Bipartisan Fiscal Commission
Convene experts and lawmakers to recommend realistic, long-term debt reduction strategies.
Encourage reforms that address the national debt without undermining critical public services.
A default is not a partisan issue—it is a national emergency. We demand responsible leadership, urgent action, and a commitment to both short-term stability and long-term fiscal health.
