Demand Stronger Ethics Enforcement and Transparency in Congress

Public trust in government is at a historic low—and for good reason. Perceived corruption, unchecked lobbying influence, and inconsistent enforcement of ethical standards are eroding faith in our democracy. We, the undersigned, call on Congress to take immediate and concrete steps to restore integrity and public confidence in our institutions.

Demand Stronger Ethics Enforcement and Transparency in Congress

To: The United States House of Representatives and the United States Senate

Petition Text:
We, the people of the United States, demand a government that serves the public interest—not special interests.

For too long, ethics violations have gone unchecked, lobbying disclosures have lacked transparency, and self-policing has proven ineffective in holding lawmakers accountable. This failure has led to widespread public cynicism and declining civic engagement.

To restore trust in our democracy, we call upon Congress to:

Strengthen and Enforce Ethics Rules

Standardize ethics guidelines across both chambers.

Implement mandatory annual ethics training for all members and staff.

Enforce meaningful consequences for violations.

Increase Transparency in Lobbying Disclosures

Require real-time disclosure of lobbying meetings and expenditures.

Close loopholes that allow “shadow lobbying” to go unreported.

Make lobbying data more accessible and searchable to the public.

Establish an Independent Congressional Ethics Commission

Create a nonpartisan, publicly accountable body with investigative authority.

Remove internal political pressure that hinders the current oversight process.

Ensure transparent publication of findings and disciplinary actions.

We urge Congress to take bold action and pass legislation that reaffirms their commitment to ethical governance and transparent representation. Public service should be about serving the public—without exception.

Signed,
Concerned Citizens of the United States
